160 young people. Two countries. One shared future.

Over the past 18 months, the DIGITAL U2 project has woven a powerful story of connection, bringing together students, teachers, and researchers from Romania and Serbia. What began as an initiative implemented by Politehnica University Timisoara, in partnership with Nikola Tesla High School in Vrsac and Ion I.C. Brătianu High School in Timisoara, quickly blossomed into a shared journey of learning, innovation, and deep personal development.

For many of the young participants, this journey marked their very first encounter with cutting-edge research technologies like Eye Tracking, Electroencephalography (EEG), and Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS). Yet, the true magic of the project extended far beyond the laboratory walls. While students unlocked new digital and entrepreneurial skills and teachers embraced fresh, innovative teaching methods, the real heart of DIGITAL U2 was found in the human connections it sparked.

Beyond the science, these 18 months were about breaking down barriers. Teenagers from neighbouring countries worked side by side, exchanged ideas, and built genuine, lasting friendships. In doing so, they discovered a newfound confidence and opened their eyes to educational and career pathways they had never imagined possible before.

By investing in people, knowledge, and cooperation, the European Union, through the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia Programme, has helped turn a borderland into a bridge, empowering the next generation to shape their future with confidence.

Although this formal chapter has reached its conclusion, the story doesn’t end here. The vibrant community born from DIGITAL U2 will continue to grow through ongoing educational activities, research initiatives, and future European collaborations.
