On June 20, 2025, in the town of Požarevac, Serbia, the new building of the General Hospital was inaugurated. This project was completed as part of the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia 2014-2020 Programme.
Aimed at early diagnosis and treatment of cancer, the project brought together key partners: Požarevac Hospital, the Serbian Ministry of Health, and two Romanian hospitals — the “Pius Brânzeu” County Emergency Hospital in Timișoara and the Resita County Hospital.
The inauguration event was attended by Nemanja Starović, Serbia’s Minister of European Integration, representatives from the Serbian Ministry of Health, the EU Delegation, and local authorities. Romania was represented by Silvia Davidoiu, Romanian Ambassador to Belgrade, Anca Lolescu, Executive Director of the Regional Office for Cross-Border Cooperation Timișoara, as well as representatives from the two Romanian partner hospitals.
With over €9.9 million in European funding, the project RORS 193 focused on building, modernizing, and equipping partner hospitals with state-of-the-art technology. It also established a professional network between specialized medical staff from both countries to enable early diagnosis and effective treatment for oncology patients.
