Natural hazards can turn into disasters when communities are unprepared, but prevention and cross-border cooperation make all the difference.
Across the Romania–Serbia border, several projects implemented under the Interreg IPA Programmes have focused on strengthening emergency preparedness and response.
Examples include:
“Efficiency in emergency situations management” – enhancing local capacities in Sisești and Mosna;
“A more secure cross-border area by enhancing the emergency response capability” to increase the safety and protection of people by improving the intervention capacity of professional emergency services in the cross-border area;
“Smart Cross Border Resilience in Emergency Situations” advancing coordination and the use of digital tools.
Through these EU co-funded projects, partners from both countries have modernised emergency services, improved interoperability, and built a culture of preparedness. Because disasters don’t stop at borders, and neither should our response.
