Youth for a Safer and Greener Future

At Ochiul Beiului Lake, in the heart of the Cheile Nerei – Beușnița National Park, young people from Romania and Serbia came together to learn, explore, and act, united by one vision: a safer, greener, and more resilient future.
Through this cross-border activity, they discovered how volunteering, environmental protection, and emergency preparedness are deeply connected. They shared experiences, built friendships, and proved that cooperation across borders creates stronger, more united communities.

Supported by the Caras-Severin Mountain Gendarmerie, participants gained practical skills, from preparing hiking trips to reacting in emergencies, while learning how small individual actions can make a big difference for the planet.

“Nature gives us everything we need, we just have to learn to protect it” reminded Dr. Sretco Milanovici, biologist at the Cheile Nerei-Beușnița National Park Administration, who guided the group through the parks’s extraordinary biodiversity. His words inspired reflection on our shared responsibility for nature’s protection.
This activity was part of the Smart Cross-Border Resilience in Emergency Situations project, a joint initiative that develops a Smart Center for Cross-Border Resilience and equips Romanian and Serbian institutions to respond faster and smarter in emergencies.

Co-funded by the European Union, the project invests in innovation, youth engagement, and cross-border collaboration, shaping a future where resilience and sustainability go hand in hand.

Project partners:
Caraș-Severin County Council, City of Vrsac, Inspectorate for Emergency Situations ”Semenic” Caraș-Severin County, Caraș-Severin County Gendarmerie Inspectorate.
