Mining has shaped the history of both Moldova Nouă (Romania) and Bor (Serbia). Today, these shared mining legacies are bringing Romanian and Serbian researchers together to better understand how heavy metals move through soil, water and air around former mining sites.

By combining expertise from both countries, this project is generating the scientific evidence needed to support future environmental protection measures and help safeguard the Danube basin.

Cross-border challenges require cross-border solutions.

The project ”Environmental risk assessment from mining activities as a result of tailings storage in the cross-border area Romania – Serbia” is co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia Programme.
