Cycling along the Iron Curtain Trail – EuroVelo 13 in Banat

For decades, Europe was torn apart by a harsh border known as the Iron Curtain, a line of fear and silence. Today, that frontier has become a bridge, a European cycle route that invites reconnection. The EuroVelo 13 trail passes through places where a difficult history meets a unique multicultural heritage. By bicycle, the once-forbidden road becomes a free experience, open to everyone.

Through the development of new cycling circuits with rest areas and themed routes, the Timiș County Council and the Regional Development Agency Banat in Zrenjanin are showcasing the beauty of Banat, sustainably linking the communities of Romania and Serbia.

Every kilometre travelled is a reminder that the past can be understood, and the future can be built together. Thus, a former border becomes a road of freedom, supported by the European Union through the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia Programme.
