We mark International Customs Day and recognise the people who help keep borders safe while supporting fair and legal trade.
Joint projects bring Romanian and Serbian authorities closer together, helping them work more efficiently at the border. These initiatives improve institutional capacity, modernise equipment and encourage cooperation between customs and border authorities on both sides of the border.
With EU co-funding, projects have delivered:
• a new ferry connection on the Danube between Moldova Nouă (RO) and Golubac/Usije (RS) as a result of project MIS-ETC 1345 Point for Crossing the Danube by Ferry between Moldova Noua and Golubac Localities, with a total budget of €2.352.673,40, and partners: Caras-Severin County Council (Romania), City of Moldova Noua (Romania), Golubac Municipality (Serbia), Veliko Gradiste Municipality (Serbia) – IPA CBC Romania-Republic of Serbia Programme 2007-2013.
• rehabilitated border infrastructure at Nakovo (RS) – Lunga (RO) as a result of project RORS-16 Improvement of Banat Connectivity, with a total budget of €1.813.477,54 and the following partners: PE “Roads of Serbia”, Municipality of Jimbolia (Romania), Municipality of Kikinda (Serbia), Regional Agency for Socio – Economic Development – Banat Ltd – RDA Banat (Serbia) – Interreg-IPA CBC Romania-Serbia Programme 2014-2020.
• safer borders through joint training, modern equipment and stronger cooperation between border authorities – a strategic importance project in implementation funded under the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia Programme 2021-2027 (RORS00004 Safer climate within the Romanian-Serbian border area, with a total budget of €13.799.413,65, and the following partners: Territorial Inspectorate for Border Police Timisoara, Ministry of Interior, Republic of Serbia, School for Improvement of Training of Romanian Border Police Personnel Drobeta-Turnu Severin, General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police, General Inspectorate of the Romanian Gendarmerie).
