Opening a new MRI Department for the Romania-Serbia border region

Access to modern diagnostic services can make a real difference in people’s lives. Earlier and more accurate diagnosis helps doctors identify medical conditions sooner, improve treatment pathways, and provide patients with better chances for recovery and a higher quality of life.

The new state-of-the-art MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) system, together with a dedicated facility built to accommodate it belonging to the Special Hospital for Psychiatric Diseases “Dr Slavoljub Bakalovic” in Vrsac, represents a major investment in healthcare services for the population of South Banat and the wider Romania-Serbia border region. At the same time, the project partner, the County Emergency Hospital Resita, has strengthened its diagnostic capacity through the acquisition of modern medical equipment, improving access to advanced diagnostic services on both sides of the border.

The opening of the MRI department marks an important milestone for the large infrastructure project RORS00013: Early Diagnosis – Living Better with Dementia. The project will be completed in the coming days. While the project is reaching its conclusion, its results will continue to benefit citizens for many years to come through modern medical equipment, strengthened healthcare services, and continued diagnostic and medical activities on both sides of the border.

Together, these investments help build more resilient healthcare systems and bring modern medical diagnostics closer to the communities they serve. The project is co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia Programme.
