Along the Bega Canal, the connection between Romania and Serbia is taking new forms. A bicycle ride, a boat trip, a cultural event or a few days discovering places across the border.
This autumn, the temporary Otelec–Srpski Itebej border crossing opens the way for bicycles and boats:
🚲🚤 18, 19, 20 September: bicycles and boats
🚲 26–27 September: bicycles
🚲 24–25 October: bicycles
From Regata Bega 2026 in Timișoara to Treasure Hunt on Two Wheels in Žitište, the Bega Canal is becoming a shared space for cross-border tourism and new experiences.
Through European Union co-funding under the Interreg IPA Romania–Serbia Programme, the Bega Canal has been rehabilitated and a cross-border cycling route developed, helping reconnect communities on both sides of the border.
