Two large infrastructure projects will receive financing through the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia Programme

During the third meeting of the Monitoring Committee for the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia Programme, two large infrastructure projects, totalling 14 million euro, were selected for funding, in the field of emergency management and development of medical infrastructure in the border area.

The projects aim to improve health and civil protection infrastructure and disaster management in the border area, including through the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment, as well as through the professional training of medical staff and those involved in emergency situations.

The project dedicated to emergency situations management in the border area aims to increase the safety and protection of the population, by improving the intervention capacity of emergency professional services and local communities in the cross-border area.

The project dedicated to medical infrastructure has the objective to increase the access of the rural population to quality medical services in the field of early detection and treatment of cases of dementia.

In the 2021-2027 programming period, the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration is acting as Managing Authority for the Interreg IPA Romania-Serbia Programme 2021-2027, which has a total budget of 87.725.681 EUR and finances projects in the field of environment protection and climate change adaptation, health and education, tourism and culture, as well as border management.

The Programme was approved by the European Commission on July 19, 2022, being the first Interreg IPA Programme approved, at european level, for the 2021-2027 programming period. The Programme area includes three counties in Romania (Timiș, Caraș-Severin and Mehedinţi), as well as six districts in Serbia (North Banat, Central Banat, South Banat, Braničevski, Borski and Podunavski).
