The Palace of Parliament hosted the Interreg Cooperation Day between 12–13 November 2025, an anniversary event dedicated to 35 years of Interreg programmes, marking at the same time over two decades of Romanian–Serbian cross-border collaboration.
The event was opened by Mr CSEKE Attila, Minister of Development, Public Works and Administration and brought together over 250 representatives of central and local institutions from Romania, as well as representatives of the European Commission.
During the event, the remarkable results achieved in two projects were presented (one being of strategic importance and the other being a large-scale infrastructure project), both financed through the Interreg IPA Romania–Serbia Programme. The presentation included a showcase of the protective equipment purchased with the support of European funds.
Thus, the project dedicated to border management, RORS0004 “SAFE – Safer climate within the Romanian-Serbian border area”, with a total value of EUR 13.7 million, of which EUR 11.7 million are IPA funds, aims to improve safety and security in the border area, reduce cross-border crime and illegal migration, and strengthen the institutional capacity of the authorities involved in border management, including through the acquisition of specialised equipment.
At the same time, the project dedicated to emergency situation management in the border area, RORS00005 “COOP – A more secure cross-border area by enhancing the emergency response capability”, with a total value of EUR 9.5 million, of which EUR 8 million are IPA funds, aims to increase public safety and protection by improving the response capacity of professional emergency services and procuring state-of-the-art equipment.
During the event, the Interreg Programmes demonstrated that European funding means improved infrastructure, better cross-border connectivity, institutional cooperation, and strengthened collaboration between Romania and neighbouring countries.
